WordPress has the availability of different Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension(MIME) plugins that can help you to upload the unsupported file in the media library of the site. In this tutorial, we will be using the Enhanced Media Library plugin. Install and Activate the plugin on your site.

  • Click on Settings>>Media>>MIME Types
  • Select the file type you would like to upload in the Media Library

In the case, if the media type is not mentioned, 

  • Select Add New MIME Type button on the top of the page. 
  • Provide the Extensions, MIME Type, Singular Label, Plural Label 
  • Click on Allow Upload button. 
  • Save the Changes. 

Editing wp-config.php File

You can edit the wp-config.php file in order to upload the file in the media library. But, this can make your site less secure. Therefore, you can revert the changes once you upload the unsupported file. In order to do it through the wp-config.php file,

  • Access your WordPress Installation Directory through an FTP client or File Manager
  • Open wp-config.php file and paste the below-mentioned syntax(code) anywhere above the line that says ‘That’s all, stop editing! Happy Publishing.

  • Save the changes.

Contacting your Hosting Provider

If both the option doesn’t seem to work in your site, or if you find these methods inappropriate, you can contact your Hosting Provider. You can ask/request them the described file type to make available for upload in the media library. Your hosting provider might restrict some file types as per the security reasons. So, asking them out can help in this situation.
