Whenever you are logged into WordPress you wish to complete the work thoroughly without any disturbance. Due to some problems, WordPress keeps logging you out.

It is quite annoying to redesign the site or reenter the data time and again. Not only does it frustrate you, but it is time-consuming as well. This problem affects the whole flow of work.

Here in this article, we have mentioned the causes as well as the simple various solutions to overcome this problem of logging out. Also known as WordPress session timeout error.

What are the Causes of WordPress Keeps logging Out Problem?

Sometimes WordPress frequently logs you out. You mightn’t have the idea why it logs you out?

First of all, you need to understand the WordPress login process. Whenever you log in to WordPress, it sets a cookie in your browser to verify your login session.

The same cookie is set in the URL of WordPress found in the settings section. If you are logging in through a URL, it should perfectly match with the URL of WordPress to function the WordPress else it won’t be able to conform to your session like in the screenshot below:

If you are logging through the URL most probably this is the reason why WordPress keeps logging you out.

What are the Simple Steps to Resolve the Frequently Logging Out Problem?

There are various methods to sort out this problem. Without delay let’s discuss them one by one:

  1. Clearing browsing data:

You need to clear your browser’s cookies or cache at the initial phase as your site might seek expired cookies and try them to verify login authority. Everyone doesn’t use the same browser so this process can vary a bit depending upon the browser you use.

 For the sake of this article, I am presenting chrome as it is the most popular browser. To clear the browsing data you need to access the settings of the browser.

  • Click on the three-dot icon on the top right corner of the window.
  • Navigate to Setting >> Privacy and security.
  • Select the “Clear browsing data” option.
  • Check the “Browsing history” and “Cookies and other site data” and click on “Clear data”.
  1. Checking browser’s cookie setting:

This can also be the reason why your WordPress is logging you out. Alike clearing browsing data head to setting and privacy. Navigate to the “Site setting”.

Click on the “Cookie and site data” section.

If you have been granted access to “Block all cookies” under this site then it’s the reason causing logging out. On the next page, you will see “ALlow all cookies” select it and your problem is solved.

  1. Deactivate plugin:

Plugins are used to add specific features. If clearing browsing data doesn’t work, the next step we need to move is deactivating the plugin. Sometimes the plugin we install might use cookies and create issues.

In this method, you need to deactivate all the plugins using FTP clients such as Filezilla. Again we need to activate one by one in order to find the culprit plugin.

  1. Verifying WordPress Address and Site Address Match

When all above normal troubleshooting doesn’t work out the last option left is to verify the same URL in both WordPress Address and Site Address.

You should check whether you have mixed WWW or non-WWW URLs in both fields. In addition to this, both the addresses should use the same protocol either HTTP or HTTPS. Follow the following steps:

  • First of all login to your WordPress dashboard and navigate Setting >> General
  • Now look at the URL of both WordPress Address and Site address and make sure they match each other like in the screenshot below:

Note:

  In case, you can’t reach the admin site, then you have to follow the task mentioned below:

 Update fields by editing wp-config.php files. Also, connect your website through an FTP client and locate the wp-config.php file in the root directory of your site. This file should be downloaded and opened in a text editor like Notepad where you need to add code below:

define(‘WP_HOME’,’http://yoursite.com);

define(‘WP_SITEURL’,’http://yoursite.com);

Stop editing and your headache due to this problem is cured. You can happily use your WordPress and create your blog.
